CELEBRATING DURING THE FINANCIAL CRISIS

No need to cancel. With a little planning you can still afford to hold your event – despite the financial crisis.

Plan your event with common sense

Your event should be planned according to your own wishes, and not based on what other people are doing. Carefully consider all the elements of your event, then simply prioritise using a little common sense. At the end of the day, all you need for a successful event is a convivial setting, good food and wine. And most importantly, a happy host who isn’t worried about the bill.

The food: What’s most important − food and beverages or the after-dinner party?
If the party is the focal point of your event, simply deselect the dessert, brandy and biscuit options and choose instead to serve chocolates with coffee/tea. Most of your guests will already be satisfied after the main course, and they may prefer a little something sweet to round off their dinner.
– save DKK 100 per person.

The wine: How important are the ”grand cru” wines to your event? A classic house wine tastes great, and perhaps you can skip the obligatory champagne aperitif and choose a glass of chilled white wine instead. This is the same white wine that will be served with the appetizer, thus providing continuity. Now your event has truly begun, so don’t worry about the snacks. Your guests will be seated soon anyway.
– save at least DKK 70 per person.

The bar: Although drinks and cocktails are trendy right now, you can still offer your guests an enjoyable selection of refreshments including beer, wine, and water served at the bar.
– save at least DKK 70 per person.

Midnight snack: It’s always nice to have a small bite to eat before going home for the night. But on the other hand, the midnight snack brings dancing – and the event itself – to an earlier conclusion. Instead, allow our bar to present a selection of salted almonds, nuts and olives.
– save DKK 70 per person.

Dancing and entertainment: There’s nothing like a good live dance band. But the cost can be overwhelming, so why not consider hiring a DJ instead? Most contemporary DJs are professionals who mix popular radio/dance hits and who offer a much larger repertoire than a dance band – at a much lower price.
– save at least DKK 20,000 and potentially much more.

Prioritising: Perhaps your event doesn’t require cutbacks across the board. You may only need to do a little prioritising here and there. For example, if the after-dinner party and dance are most important, then reduce your costs for the aperitif and dinner and spend a little more on the bar service. Or vice versa.
